Time goes by...

Got a lot of hours at UNH this week, but the lunatics run the assylum. To call them half-assed is generous. 1/8 assed is more accurate. But i like teaching the students, despite the admin. But it's a job.

The rains have come. I can actually see pieces of the lawn. Oh joy, oh rupture!

There is no pain... you are receding

The snow recedes down, but not back, not giving us any more room on the roads. There's still a hell of a lot of snow out there.

Watched the Capitals play a lifeless game vs. the Rangers.

Also saw Killing Lincoln and Seven Psycopaths. Both were great. The latter was insane and i recommend it highly. Otherwise, a nice quiet weekend.

We've got classes maƱana to make up for the 3 days we lost last week. We have been shell shocked by the snow.

And the days go by...

Nothing much to report..., mercifully. Hope all is well with all of you and yours.

The snow is receding. But more is on its way.

The Long Walk

SUNDAY

I am reading Stephen King's The Long Walk. Years ago my sister told me, it reminded me of something you would write.

It's a totalitarian society and 100 boys have to walk a minimum of four miles an hour. If you slow down, you get 3 warnings and they you buy your ticket, which is a bullet to the head. The Hunger Games, 30 years ago. It's sparser than Hunger Games, but that's a pretty intricate trilogy. And King's vision is pretty sick, with the event televised and lots of live spectators by the side of the road.

It's particularly poignant as I've been shoveling and plowing all weekend long and just want to stop. Luckily, i can take a break without someone blowing my head off.

I've never seen snow like this. It is the second largest in CT history. At least it wasn't too cold out there today. It was 40F. It was 20F yesterday and -0 during the night.

A meter of snow

3 feet of f*^king snow!  There's normally a pool below that slide, but you can't see it. I shoveled about 2.5 - 3 hours. Cleared the side door, a path to the screen house and the side path. Also a swath off one side of the driveway to the street. Our street still isn't plowed yet. There will be no school Monday. The snow was light at time and heavy at others because the wind had made dense drifts.

Music to shovel to;

Pink Floyd - Montreal '77
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
Joe Satriani - Satchurated (Live in Montreal) disc 2

No school!

No school manana. But i get paid. Oh noble profession, teaching!

Finding Nemo

Looks like we're in for a hell of a storm, possibly 2 feet. WTF! It has been a crazy winter. It's been below freezing for weeks and now they say this could be like the Blizzard of '78. I was ten years old, and it was a hell of thing.

The only question which remains is 'will i have to teach manana?'

Time to batten down the hatches before Nemo hits. Little orange bastard.

Whiteout

  • I subbed again for a sick co-worker today at UNH.
  • I am watching Jamaica / Mexico play in World Cup Qualifying in Mexico City. They should be up by two goals but it's 0-0 at the half. The USA lost to Honduras earlier today.
  • And New England is bracing for winter storm Nemo (are you fucking serious?) We name winter storms now? Maybe i'll start naming my farts. They happen about just as often.
  • Now that i am a teacher and get paid for snow days, snow on the weekend just pisses me off.
  • I think i went to grammer school with the chick on the right.

February

Well, I got accepted to a final interview for Teach America. That's on the 25th of Feb. and it's all day. SO that's good news.

The NFL is over and it is time for the NHL. Yeah baby! Too bad the Caps have looked mediocre at best.

Tons of subbing. It's freezing out and I have a sinus headache. Time to call the WAAAAH-bulance.

WAAAAAH!
